MOTIVATION TO STUDY NURSING

What is the inspiration for your wanting to become a nurse?

Twenty-eight years ago, my son was diagnosed with autism. Autism is a mental illness which also affects the ability to communicate. My son did not speak until he was 5 years old. Raising a child with autism is very challenging and the help we received from trained professionals helped us cope. One of those professionals encouraged me to enroll in a nursing programme. I am grateful for that encouragement because as a professional nurse I was able to care not only for my son but for my whole family as well. I love the profession so much that I continued with my studies and ultimately earned a doctorate degree in nursing.
