Message from the Dean to Our Prospective Students
Welcome to the School of Nursing at the University of Lunsar.
Whether you are advancing your practice from a State Registered Nurse or from a State Enrolled Community Health Nurse to a Baccalaureate degree prepared Nurse, or pursuing a career change to nursing, or secondary school graduate pursing a nursing degree, or interested in educating future nurse leaders, the University of Lunsar School of Nursing offers unique opportunities to grow personally and professionally.
The healthcare system in Sierra Leone is still grappling with issues of cost, quality, and safety constantly. To meet the healthcare needs of our society, future nurses must be prepared to meet diverse patients’ needs, function as leaders, work collaboratively and effectively with other health professionals to transform the healthcare system in ways which will ensure that those who need care receive it in the most efficient, safe, and affordable way possible.
The University of Lunsar’s School of Nursing is committed to partnering with others in elevating the standard of Nursing Education in the country. We see our nursing graduates as global nurses with skills, knowledge and attitudes that will meet the basic standards of nursing practice anywhere in the world.
We pledge to our students that the university will provide the resources and learning experiences necessary to establish a firm foundation for building competence in their professional study. In addition to the technical skills necessary to provide safe care, students will develop communication, critical thinking and decision-making skills to lead care teams in the future.
Through active participation in this community of learners, students gain an appreciation for the value of diversity, commitment to service, the importance of engaged citizenship, and the
essential nature of lifelong learning.
We invite you to explore our website to learn about our faculty and staff, and our plans for the future. Envision yourself in our student-centred environment as you embark on your journey to become a nurse.
